How To Get Financially Free In 2016 (Simple 5 Step Process)

Posted by:

2016 is now upon us, and it could be the year you get financially free. Now is the time to plan.

Here are 5 powerful steps that can carry you all the way through 2016 and into a lifestyle of freedom and prosperity.

1) Picture What You Want Your Life To Look Like In 2017

The starting point for this process is to look forward to 2017, visualize what you want your life to look like, and work backwards.

By 2017, what would you like your income to be? How much would you like to be working to maintain that income level? Where would you like to be living? How much would you like to have saved in the bank, etc. etc.

The more detailed you can be, the better. The goal is to know exactly what you want and get it down on paper.

2) What’s The One Most Important Thing You Can Do This Year?

Now ask yourself this question… “What’s the one thing I can do this year to accomplish my goal of _______ such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary.

The answer to this question will be the one most important thing that you absolutely must do this year to accomplish your goal.

3) 6 Months, 3 Months, This Month, This Week, Today, Now…

Now that you know where you’re going, and what you need to do to get there, repeat this question again and again, ever narrowing your focus.

“Based on my 1 year goal, what’s the one thing I can do in the next 6 months, to be on track to hit it?”

Then ask it it again…

“Based on my 6 month goal, what’s the one thing I can do in the next 3 months, to be on track to hit it?”

And again…

“Based on my 3 month goal, what’s the one thing I can do this month, to be on track to hit it?”

And so on…

“Based on my 1 month goal, what’s the one thing I can do this week, to be on track to hit it?”

“Based on my 1 week goal, what’s the one thing I can do today, to be on track to hit it?”

“Based on my goal today, what’s the one thing I can do RIGHT NOW, to be on track to hit it?”

4) Why Is This Process So Important?

Why go through all the trouble of writing this all down? Does it really make a difference?

Yes, it does. Here’s why…

People often quit things because they cannot connect the work they do today with the results they will get in the future.

There’s a psychological phenomenon called hyperbolic discounting, which means the farther away a reward is in the future, the smaller the immediate motivation to achieve it. When given a choice, people will often choose a small reward today over a large one in the future.

This is what’s usually happening when someone quits a home business. They are choosing the small reward of keeping their free time, or their current paycheck right now, over the large reward later of financial freedom and lifestyle elevation.

Again, they cannot connect the dots between the effort they’re putting into their business now, and the rewards they will experience later on.

Performing the above exercise will allow you to connect these dots by showing you exactly how your current decisions and actions connect you to the end goal you’ve set in the future.

5) Do What You’ve Decided To Do

Now that you know what to do… do it, and keep doing it! There is no substitution for taking immediate and consistent action.

This isn’t a race, it’s a marathon, and your only competition is yourself. The only way you don’t reach the finish line is if you stop moving towards it.

Honestly, you can get a lot of other stuff wrong, and still eventually reach your goals, if you just keep moving forward.

Don’t Give Up!

Decide that your financial freedom, happiness, children’s future, or whatever else you’re working for… is a need, not a want… a necessity, not a luxury… and keep going till you get it.

I hope this post has been enlightening. I hope that it’s helped you. Much of what I wrote about here can be found in this book “The One Thing” by Gary Keller. It’s a great read and I highly recommend it.
