People always want to know what the secret to success is. Usually those who are successful, when asked, will say that there really is no secret. But that’s not entirely true. There is in fact a secret to succeeding and succeeding fast.

Every single person who has done anything significant in their lives has learned this secret. But it’s only a secret because most people don’t see it. It’s not that they can’t see it, it’s that they don’t want to. Because once you do, you are forced to abandon disillusionment and get to work.

The real secret to success can be summed up in this quote by Thomas J. Watson Jr…

“Would you like me to give you the formula for success? It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure.” ~Thomas J. Watson Jr.

At first, that quote might not inspire and motivate you too much. I mean, who wants to fail, right? From a young age we are taught that failing is something to be avoided at all costs.

It’s so deeply ingrained in our psyche that a lot of people are physically incapable of even admitting when they’re wrong. Present them with the truth, right in their face, and they’ll still cling to their erroneous opinions. They would literally rather go on believing a lie than have their opinions challenged by the truth.

It’s practically an epidemic and it is exactly this reason that so few people ever achieve any lasting success in their lives.

What Is Failure?

But failure isn’t something to be avoided, it’s something to be embraced… when you understand what it really is. The problem is that we think of failure as an ending, when it’s really a beginning. Failure is not final. Every failed attempt puts an end to a course of action that did not and could not work, and makes room for a new and better course of action to take its place.

This famous quote by Thomas Edison is a perfect example of the way successful people think. Every failure is a stepping stone along the path of success. Success and failure are not opposite paths, they are both part of the same path, running parallel to each other. Success is always built on the back of failure.

Everyone Fails At First

The problem with always trying to avoid failure is that it ends up paralyzing us. People can become terrified to take a step in any direction for fear they might make a mistake. Or even worse, they take one tiny step and if it doesn’t work out the way they expected, they give up completely and retreat even further into the shell of fear and inactivity.

But the fact is, everyone fails in their first attempt. No one can get it right on their first try. Whether it be athletics, education, business, whatever, the only way to succeed is to keep doing it wrong long enough to learn how to do it right.

How To Succeed In Network Marketing

These principles are especially relevant to network marketing because many people start a network marketing business with the wrong expectations.

If someone doesn’t understand these principles and that the process of success requires hard work, they will give up at the first sign of difficulty. But worse than that, they often decide that just because something didn’t work for them, that means the entire industry doesn’t work, for them or for anybody.

They will completely abandon the one thing that could have lifted them out of their circumstances if they had just stuck with it a little longer.

This is really tragic, especially because it’s completely avoidable when you just have the right perspective.

Remember what Edison said. There is no failure… there’s just 10,000 ways that don’t work. The faster you sort through them, the faster you can find the ways that DO work.

Thankfully, in this business it doesn’t have to take 10,000 tries to find your light bulb. When you join the right team, you can plug into proven systems that are already working for people and get help when you need it.
